Some Atrius Health patients with congestive heart failure will soon have a state-of-the-art health technology system in their homes that will allow them to send real-time daily reports of their vital signs and symptoms to their doctors’ offices. In an organizational first, the Atrius Health Foundation has partnered with NEHI, a national health policy institute, and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to create a clinical demonstration study of the management of congestive heart failure through home “telemedicine” monitoring. In this controlled, randomized study, the program will be available to patients at seven Atrius Health sites...
“We expect that the Telehealth program will significantly improve the quality of life for Atrius Health patients,” says Lesley Macdonald, Research Projects Manager for the Atrius Health Foundation, who is working with George Higgins, Enrollment Coordinator for the Foundation, to select and enroll patients and oversee the research protocol. “Because let’s face it,” says Macdonald, “No one wants to go back into the hospital.”
