According to Simon, a tele-ICU system is also a way to use technology to lessen the impact of a national shortage of intensivists. That shortage is expected to worsen as the general population ages and requires more health care services. In fact, a 2006 report from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) predicted a possible shortfall of 1,500 intensivists by 2020...
