It seems easy enough—the patient presents with a problem, and the physician or other provider assesses the situation, orders an appropriate medication and explains to the patient how to take it...the National Priorities Partnership and the health policy institute NEHI (New England Healthcare Institute) in Cambridge, Mass., reported in March 2011 that not taking medications as prescribed costs the health system $100 billion annually in excess hospitalizations...medication therapy management is available in many pharmacies and is growing as more third-party payors cover the service. And some patients are willing to pay out-of-pocket. “It’s still a fairly young concept,” Rosato said, “but we’re seeing more and more adoption by pharmacies nationwide.”
