Intensive Partnership: Harrington, UMASS Memorial team up for 'eICU' service

During the first three months of this year at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, five patients who were expected to die, based on their conditions when admitted to the nonprofit hospital's Intensive Care Unit, survived, said Dr. Arthur R. Russo, chief medical officer...the New England Healthcare Institute, an independent health care think tank in Cambridge, estimates that 350 lives and $122 million would be saved each year if every hospital in Massachusetts adopted an eICU program...at Harrington, the patient and insurer do not see additional costs for the service because it's part of an overall arrangement between Harrington and UMass Memorial, Dr. Russo said.
