At this special celebration looking back on NEHI's accomplishments, we will honor the 45 distinguished people who have received our Innovator in Health awards over the years and induct a new 2018 class of awardees as well:
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb. The Commissioner will be honored for his distinguished service to all Americans – notably his leadership in maintaining the innovation pipeline while ensuring affordability of prescription drugs, as well as in his actions to combat the nation’s opioid crisis and to further reduce avoidable deaths from smoking.
Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and former Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA), NEHI’s 2018 Henri A. Termeer Memorial Innovator in Health Awardees. Senator Hatch and Representative Waxman will be honored for their transformative leadership in contributing to the affordability of pharmaceuticals through their sponsorship of the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984, the so-called Hatch-Waxman act, as well as for their work on the Orphan Drug Act to facilitate the development of treatments for patients with rare diseases.
Colleen LaBelle, Director of the State Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) and Director of Boston Medical Center’s OBAT. Ms. LaBelle will be honored for her major influence on the field of substance use disorders, particularly through her creation and leadership of the nurse care manager model that has enabled effective opioid use disorder treatment in community health settings.
