NEHI research and analysis promotes the adoption of evidence-based policy and practices for health promotion, the prevention of chronic disease and reducing health risks. Prior NEHI projects have focused on the unique social, political and business challenges of sustaining effective, multi-factor strategies that improve health at the local and regional level. Current NEHI projects include; identifying potential policy solutions of prevention and treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes, identifying barriers to reducing medical errors, political support and feasibility for a National Patient Safety Authority, and options for leveraging financial incentives through the Public Option to improve patient safety, and developing a proposal to work with Massachusetts stakeholders to test certain policies that reduce the administrative costs associated with prior authorization of medical services.
